Decorating and redesigning the home interior are some of the inevitable parts of our home renovation. Therefore, the floor and ceiling design should be at the top of your priority list. Apart from the flooring, covering different cabinets and furniture also adds some aesthetic feel to your home decor. While we think of the ideas like flooring and covering up the cabinets, images of wooden surface layers are popped up in our minds. Colour, texture and gradient are the things you should consider when you want to redecorate your sweet home or dynamic workplace.

In the variation of the wooden surface layers, hardwood and laminates are very popular among homeowners as well as among interior decorators. Hardwood is mostly regarded as the real deal so we want to amp up our house.  On the other hand, the laminates are considered cost-effective and pocket-friendly options for us. These surface layers come in a variety just like other surface materials. That does not mean you will immediately eliminate hardwood flooring from your list. We always suggest you choose the most suitable products as per your house’s requirements.

Whatever surface layer you use, we always frown on the concerns regarding cleaning out the floors. Every floor types and surface layers require a proper cleaning when it comes to taking care of our interior decoration. Irrespective of laminate sheets or hardwood flooring, spills and spots are inevitable for our house’s flooring and surface covering.

Now, let’s find out among laminates and hardwood, what is easier to clean.

    Know Hardwood and Laminates

Hardwood flooring is made up of natural woods like oak, maple and hickory. Hardwood contains a thick and smooth surface edge. The types of wood boards are interlocked together. These are typically milled from natural timber from trees. Therefore, we get solid surface layers which are capable of withstanding wear and tear.

Laminate sheets are contained with layers of highly dense fibreboard. These artificial layers offer you the appearance of different types of wood, stones or metals. Plus, the decorative laminate layers are available in different customised designs. These artificial boards are backed with water and heat-resistant properties. With a wide range of laminate designs, you can adorn your home.

Now, find out whether hardwood or laminates is easier in cleaning.

    Mop Your Floor

Mopping is the commonest cleaning method we know. So, while you want to clean your hardwood flooring, mopping is acceptable only with a specially designed floor spray cleaner. Apply the cleaning spray directly on the floor and move the flat mop in a back-and-forth manner. But, take care that the mops should not too dirty to use.

In the case of high-pressure laminates in flooring, you should use microfibre mops. You can use formulated cleaners for laminates to remove stains and spots. A slightly moistured mop is also applicable in the cleaning laminates.

    Chemical Use- Be Careful

Mild soap and cleaning agents can be used for both hardwood and laminate sheets. With mineral spirits, the cleaning of hardwood flooring can be possible. On the other hand, washing machine cleaning substances should be avoided in cleaning both hardwood and laminates. If you have a wax-polished hardwood floor, you need to use a specially curated cleaning agent.

Many of us are confused when it comes to the question of cleaning digital laminates. But, don’t worry, you can use nail polish removers or alcohol-based cleaners to remove the permanent stains and marks. In the end, we can only recommend you not apply any random cleaners.

    Should You Vacuum Clean?

You can use simple vacuum cleaners on hardwood floors. With this cleaning process, you can eliminate specks of dust, hair, crumbs and anything on the wood. You can sweep the dust and other dirt from the laminates by using vacuum cleaners. But never use a beater brush on the laminate sheets. Additionally, steam cleaning is a big no in laminate cleaning.

So, hardwood surfaces are resistant to many factors but they would require proper maintenance. Plus, you need to invest a little more to install it. On the other hand,  laminates are cost-effective and more convenient to install. But you may think about where you can get the best quality laminates with proper designs.
